The day we’ve been anticipating has finally arrived. I don’t know about you, but I’m one Anxious Annie. Anyhow, a clever local artist by the name of Alex Zecca renamed Bush Street to Obama Street. Apparently he got from Presidio to Grant (for those who don’t know, that’s pretty far) before the police made him go back and take them all down.

Blur_1

Oh my dearest PC default font, how you have been overused, abused and left for pseudo-high-end day spa type treatments. But this takes it to a whole new level. One evening, while strolling to a bar in the Tenderloin, I came across this. WTF mate. And apparently, Blur is a pretty neat bar/club inside. Hard to tell from their logo, that’s for sure. And I’m not one for being a snobby urbanite, but that hideous texture…and look at the abnormally long l…the pain it causes my eyes. And its EVERYWHERE. And are those fixed gears bikes? Oh my, that’s a whole other rant.

IllStudio_1

Ill-Studio is a French group of collaborators devoted to fine arts. They recently curated an event with Scion in Los Angeles called “The Art of Music” that included artists Steven Harrington and Alter. Sorry folks, but the show just ended. On a brighter note, I met one of the collabrators of Ill-Studio, David Luraschi, an amazingly talented photographer residing in SF. But check out their work, it will make your Monday better. Promise. Or there is something wrong with your brain.

Hilary Pecis_1

San Francisco artist, Hilary Pecis, draws methodical patterns comprised of visual codes established by observing sources such as folk art and technology. She then layers the drawings with images and shards of glossy magazine pages, reassembled so that they are no longer identifiable as the images they once were. Often inspired by photographs, Pecis’ works are depictions of the aftermath of an imagined apocalypse. Her exhibit entitled, From the Paradigm Shift runs from September 6th – 26th, 2008 at Receiver Gallery.

Everything is ok :: activist kit ::

Everything is Ok

I recently acquired the Everything is ok activist kit from the nice people over at Mine in San Francisco. And although I have the strong urge to just keep it on my shelf to look at (it comes all contained in a can) that would be wrong. Very wrong considering the whole purpose of the kit is to inspire positive change with the dialog that you choose to create between the medium and the environment its in. So while you sit there and read this, I say, acquire a kit yourself and go out and do something with it and post your photos to their web site. It will be good for you. And I’ll keep you posted as to what I’ll be doing with mine.

National Forest is an L.A. based think-tank that produces some mighty fine work. Here is an illustration package that they created for Dwell magazine’s Fall 2007 issue on sustainability. Really diggin’ the old science book look.
