Getting back into the swing of work can be tough after a long break, but the work of UK-based Cartlidge Levene is another reminder the power of great design. I’m really drawn to their MoreySmith identity, but be sure to check out their signage projects as well.

Just when I was thinking that my owl collection was complete, I came across these delightful toys. Peleda is a new line by Toy Tokyo and Nathan Jurevicius of wind-up owls. Uber cute and the stylization of the owls are reminiscent of vintage sculptures and kitchen goods. And did I mention the packaging is very appealing as well?

Last week’s New York Times Magazine marked the 15th annual Lives They Lived issue, which celebrates the life and times of 24 very different lives. Not only were the articles wonderfully written, but the typography of the magazine cover as well as headers were a beautiful, modern script with extreme thicks and thins illustrated by Nancy Harris Rouemy.

While I’m a proponent of wearing festive hats year around, its seems that New Year’s Eve is most popular when it comes to adorning one’s head with glittery words and feathers. It makes me quite happy. Definitely 2nd to Halloween, NYE is my kind of fun. Non-denominational, fizzy drinks, noisemakers and making out? I’m there. But when it comes to New Year’s resolutions, I gave up on those a few years ago. Not that I don’t have issues/thoughts/goals that could benefit from some change, but for me, it became a curse that resolutions never followed through. (probably similiar to most of the population) So since then, I believe that if you need a specific day to remind you to take the time out to think about how you can be a better person, be happier or reflect on your existence, then you need to be more motivated regularly. I still love you. Just do more stuff, okay? Happy New Year.

Conceptual design for a exhibition that showcases 12 photographers who just happen to be blind. A common misconception that Magdalena Tjaneski wanted to correct through her designs is that the blind see constant darkness, which is untrue. They imagine color. So while their idea of leaves may be pink instead of green, they still live in a colorful world. Great work.

As a youngster, my friends and I would go into the fields nearby and pick blackberries, then step on lizards tails and watch them squirm, then go back to picking blackberries. A very fond memory. And while I’m pretty sure the Fallen Fruit collective doesn’t promote reptile torture, they do believe in the idea of public fruit. This concept began as an activist art project where people would map public fruit in neighborhoods, encouraging the public to sample and harvest fruit. They believe fruit should be a resource that is commonly shared and often times, people have wonderful stories about fruit, the history of where the seeds or tree came from. Find a map of your neighborhood here.

This just in. An intriguing experiment by Tim Belonax where he takes the daily San Francisco Chronicle and everyday for a month, creates a collage using elements of the newspaper. Not only do I love the fact he’s repurposing newspapers, I also thoroughly enjoy the little details added to each description about what section of the newspaper he used and how long it took. And is anyone else in shock that we actually paid over $4.00 a gallon for gas!!! (repeating exclamination points extremely necessary) Holy mole. See his other entries here.

What began as a commentary on Montreal’s lack of bike paths, Roadsworth has evolved his street art into something much more. Mostly using stencil-based techniques, he has turned ordinary street markings into political statements.
