Getting back into the swing of work can be tough after a long break, but the work of UK-based Cartlidge Levene is another reminder the power of great design. I’m really drawn to their MoreySmith identity, but be sure to check out their signage projects as well.

Awhile back, I had done a post on the design studio, Bunch, and their collaborative approach to creating a new identity to themselves. Well, the book has arrived. Bastarised showcases 289 of the Bunchisms specially selected from 750 contributions and is now on sale through their online shop. And I was very excited to see that my contribution had been published. Thanks Bunch.

Just when I was thinking that my owl collection was complete, I came across these delightful toys. Peleda is a new line by Toy Tokyo and Nathan Jurevicius of wind-up owls. Uber cute and the stylization of the owls are reminiscent of vintage sculptures and kitchen goods. And did I mention the packaging is very appealing as well?

Last week’s New York Times Magazine marked the 15th annual Lives They Lived issue, which celebrates the life and times of 24 very different lives. Not only were the articles wonderfully written, but the typography of the magazine cover as well as headers were a beautiful, modern script with extreme thicks and thins illustrated by Nancy Harris Rouemy.

While I’m a proponent of wearing festive hats year around, its seems that New Year’s Eve is most popular when it comes to adorning one’s head with glittery words and feathers. It makes me quite happy. Definitely 2nd to Halloween, NYE is my kind of fun. Non-denominational, fizzy drinks, noisemakers and making out? I’m there. But when it comes to New Year’s resolutions, I gave up on those a few years ago. Not that I don’t have issues/thoughts/goals that could benefit from some change, but for me, it became a curse that resolutions never followed through. (probably similiar to most of the population) So since then, I believe that if you need a specific day to remind you to take the time out to think about how you can be a better person, be happier or reflect on your existence, then you need to be more motivated regularly. I still love you. Just do more stuff, okay? Happy New Year.

Besides the harmonica, the glass harp is an instrument that I’ve always wanted to learn to play. Not really. But, Lernert Engelberts and Sanders Plug do. And did quite well. Watch them work those glasses to a rendition of the horrendous pop song “No limit” by 2unlimited. But if there is one thing to be learned from this project, its the words of the creators themselves “Commit and dedicate yourself to even the most stupid ideas that come to mind.”
