Multistorey :: The Modern Flower Co.

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Absolutely love this identity by UK studio, Multistorey, for rebranding of a small chain of London florists. They were asked to create something  “modern” while retaining their 1950’s influence of traditional gardening. In this case, they used the trellis as a basis for their identity and typography. Brilliant.

GoGirl :: Happy Birthday Mariam

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Being in the celebratory spirit that I am, I’d like to wish my fellow blog-mate, Mariam, a happy fucking birthday. And while most would say that with a cake or perhaps even a Snuggie, I want you to empower yourself with a GoGirl, “Don’t Take Life Sitting Down.” Mariam my dear, I grant you the ability to pee standing up because I didn’t realize how much of a problem it was to sit down and/or hover before I came across this. FUD’s for all.

Yes. Yessssssssssss. It’s hard to say which ones I like best, but Numa Numa and Bubb Rubb are definitely up there. Chuckles for days. And its interesting how many of them pre-date YouTube. Viral before viral even existed. Procrasinate here.

Keep-Us-Busy :: Design Peep Show

This beats the typical window display. Two students at the Lincoln School of Art & Design in UK decided to hang out in a window for a week and get creative. Passer-byers suggested things to do or create by writing messages on the window. Suggestions varied from selling origami swans to pulling up their trousers. This is pretty ridiculous yet awesome idea! Hmmm what would the Apples & Owls week-long window display look like? Make sure you check out their whole setup here.

Unique Pillows :: Blood Puddle & Message

I adore sleep. In fact, I have been known to yell absurd statements in a half-daze if you: 1.try and wake me up early on weekend mornings 2. hog the blankets 3. stand outside my window smoking cigarettes at 7 a.m. in the morning whispering, “lilliannnnnn, wake up.” I only want to wake up to the smell of bacon and pancakes. But perhaps if I had these pillows, I might be less grumpy-spice.

Parra :: Incase + Arkitip

Parra is a Dutch graphic designer, illustrator, artist, art director and clothing company owner whose work has been the talk of the town recently. And for good reason. And most recent is a collaboration he’s done with Incase and Arkitip to create artwork for cases for Macbooks and iPhones. Love his playfulness, use of insanely bright colors all the while having a slightly disturbing tone to this work.

The Noise Pop Festival is back! And it starts kicks off today!! Noise Pop is a week long celebration of indie music, art and film with an emphasis on local bands. This year’s line up includes: Deerhunter, Antony and The Johnsons, Stephen Malkmus as well as art exhibits by Jesse LaDoux and my favorite local poster designers, The Small Stakes. Wooooooooo. I’ll be checking out Brooklyn-based band, Les Savy Fav on Sunday, which I’m quite giddy about.

Daytum :: Tracking Data Daily

I saw a rainbow today. It was pretty sweet. But nothing tops my recent addition to Daytum. Created by Nicholas Feltron and Ryan Case, Daytum is a home for collecting and communicating your daily data. It’s the next best feeling to putting on a new pair of fuzzy sweatpants. Track me here.

Cure for Road Rage Shticks

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

signs.jpg

Living in LA you tend to spend a lot of your time in your car, in traffic. There are times I wish I had a Sharpie and paper to make a sign for the crazy driver next to me. Someone felt the same way and created Cure for Road Rage Shticks. “Are You Drunk?”, “Shame On You” and of course, the finger. But the best is the DIY wipe-away board. I’d probably write “Get off your phone and drive!” or “Stop texting!”
