I’m impressed by how progressive guerilla/public installations have become these days. I always have fancied the knitted tree branch cozies from artist Carol Hummel and paste-ups are classic, but guerilla gardening by Eric Cheung and Sean Martindale looks to be the diamond in the dark. They take existing wheatpasted billboards and create folded pockets that are used as pots for plants. This is too good not to reblog.

Currently obsessing over the artworks and paste-ups by artist, Miso. The intricacy, the patternings, the mixed medias. Blow your mind here. ( be sure to keep a jar nearby to collect brain guts)

At first I watched the video, but then found the photography stills to be much more fascinating. I mean, c’mon, its rolling and unraveling, yada yada yada. Only to find out it was advertising for Ray Ban’s Never Hide campaign. Buzzkill. Can’t a girl enjoy a ridiculously large ball of yarn that looks both ways while crossing the street, has kittens stuck in it, gets stopped by the fuzz and rides the Muni without being sold eyewear?

Roadsworth :: Street Stencils ::

Roadsworth_1

What began as a commentary on Montreal’s lack of bike paths, Roadsworth has evolved his street art into something much more. Mostly using stencil-based techniques, he has turned ordinary street markings into political statements.

Weeds :: Promotion ::

WeedsJoint_1

To promote the premiere of the tv series, Weeds, sent out giant joints! kinda. Bouquets of hemp plants, sans thc, (darn.) rolled up in papers to create a flower gram were sent out. How clever. And tempting.

Jan Vormann is a Berlin-based artist and her work in public spaces is particularly great. This series, Dispatchwork, can be found in Rome, Tel Aviv and Yaffo. Ambient and amazing. Another confirmation that Legos are the best toys ever.

SFist :: Bush Street Renamed ::

Obama_1

The day we’ve been anticipating has finally arrived. I don’t know about you, but I’m one Anxious Annie. Anyhow, a clever local artist by the name of Alex Zecca renamed Bush Street to Obama Street. Apparently he got from Presidio to Grant (for those who don’t know, that’s pretty far) before the police made him go back and take them all down.

Uniqlo :: Heat Tech Promo ::

Uniqlo_1

Listen up, coz this is good. It involves mimes, human vending machines and free clothes. Uniqlo, a Japanese-based casual clothing brand, will be promoting their new line of Heat Tech Innerwear next month in Times Square. While most companies would just have reps handing free clothing to people, Uniqlo has an innovative way to distribute their goods. Uniqlo reps dressed in silver bodysuits will be scanning people with a thermometer device that detects cold spots on your body. Then, you go to a giant human vending machine with two mimes inside, press a button, they do a routine and then you get a free outfit. It doesn’t get much better than that. For more info, go here.

Palin Poster

PalinPoster

I came across this while lurking in Berkeley for a halloween costume. While I was unsuccessful on finding a suitable outfit, I consider this poster a score. More about this guerilla campaign here.

“The problem for Palin isn’t ambition, it’s hubris. A more grounded politician would have put in the work to match their aspirations. That Palin hasn’t done that bespeaks a tremendous, even scary, overconfidence.”

Everything is ok :: activist kit ::

Everything is Ok

I recently acquired the Everything is ok activist kit from the nice people over at Mine in San Francisco. And although I have the strong urge to just keep it on my shelf to look at (it comes all contained in a can) that would be wrong. Very wrong considering the whole purpose of the kit is to inspire positive change with the dialog that you choose to create between the medium and the environment its in. So while you sit there and read this, I say, acquire a kit yourself and go out and do something with it and post your photos to their web site. It will be good for you. And I’ll keep you posted as to what I’ll be doing with mine.
